Rangers are in talks to sign Everton striker Youssef Chermiti on loan.
Manager David Moyes left the young Portuguese striker out of Everton’s line-up to face Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup last night as he prepares to move away for more regular game time.
The 21-year old cost Everton £12.5m from Sporting Lisbon in 2023 and has battled to make an impression in an often struggling side with chances few and far between.
Moyes has signed Thierno Barry from Villarreal this summer and wants to add another experienced forward before the window closes.
Rangers are desperate to add more quality after a poor start to the season with manager Russell Martin’s reign sinking to new depths with a 6-0 defeat by Bruges on Wednesday night that has left supporters clamouring for change already.
Chermiti will be tasked with trying to find the goals in Scotland and lifting the gloom around Martin’s tenure.

He is quick and skilful but will need to show he can adapt to the physical side of the game in the Scottish Premiership to make his move a success.
After his side failed to register a shot on target against Brugge an under-fire Martin said: ‘There’s not enough harmony or care for each other quite yet. But I knew that coming in, we have to build that, heal and get stronger through it.
‘There’s not enough players who want to fight for each other and the club yet. The window shuts on Monday. The harmony has been disrupted. We have to kick on for Sunday.
‘I can’t say anything. I apologise for the performance. They’ve been great, the only thing we can do is really build a top performance on Sunday.’
