The United States has announced that it will impose an additional 10% tariff on imports from the UK in addition to existing US duties, fees, and taxes. This came into effect on 5 April 2025 at 1201am EST.
Further changes to US import tariffs were announced on 8 May as part of the UK-US Economic Prosperity Deal. If the deal is finalised in line with the agreement’s terms, then the following will apply
- Steel and aluminium 0% tariff (reduced from current 25% rate)
- Cars 10% tariff on the first 100,000 imported yearly, and any additional vehicles are subject to 25% rates (reduced from current 27.5% rate)
- Beef Tariff-free quota of 13,000 metric tonnes for beef imports to the US.
An additional change to US import tariffs was announced on 16 June as part of the UK-US trade deal. The below change is expected to take place by the end of June
- Aircraft engines and components removal of tariffs (reduced from current 10% rate)
