Following a strong start to 2026, Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) has reached another major milestone, marking further progress towards delivering the UK’s first fleet of small modular reactors (SMRs) at Wylfa on Ynys Môn (Anglesey).

Since its inception in 2023, the total value of contracts awarded by GBE-N has now reached nearly £900m, a powerful signal of growing momentum, industrial confidence, and a cleaner, more secure energy future built here in Britain.

Of these contracts, more than 70% have gone to UK registered companies, with billions of pounds more still to be procured for the Wylfa SMR project – a multi‑billion‑pound programme delivering three reactors and at least 1.4GW of clean, secure power for the UK.

In April, GBE-N and Rolls-Royce SMR signed a landmark contract to design and build the SMRs. Rolls-Royce SMR has also demonstrated a strong track record in supporting the UK supply base since its launch in 2021, with over £300 million spent through the supply chain, also hitting the target of at least 70% of that spend going to UK-based businesses. This shared commitment to British industry will help build a strong, sustainable long-term domestic capability.

The initial project is expected to support around 3,000 jobs on site at peak construction, with thousands more across the UK supply chain.

CEO of GBE-N, Simon Roddy, said

“This is another proof point that we’re making tangible progress in delivering the UK’s nuclear programme at scale and pace. I’m especially proud that, after competitive tender processes, we’re well on track to meet our ambition for at least 70% of the SMR fleet’s value to be supplied by the UK.”

CEO of Rolls-Royce SMR, Chris Cholerton, added

“Our shared commitment to localisation is an important cornerstone to the successful delivery of the Wylfa project. Together with GBE-N, we are creating a programme that will deliver clean, secure and affordable energy, while sustaining high-value jobs, strengthening our supply chain and building the skills the UK needs for decades to come.”

Nuclear Minister, Patrick Vallance, said

“Great British Energy – Nuclear is making excellent progress against its ambition for 70 per cent of British built content across the small modular reactor fleet, and we fully support their work with Rolls-Royce SMR to unlock UK supply chain benefits providing thousands of jobs in our community.

“This is part of our commitment to delivering a golden age of nuclear and developing world leading-nuclear expertise and UK supply chains, supporting thousands of jobs in our community.”

About GBE‑N
