UK defence secretary John Healey compared Volodymyr to Winston Churchill after Donald Trump claimed that the Ukrainian leader was a “dictator”.
The US president repeated his attacks on Mr Zelensky overnight on Wednesday, 19 February, after criticising Mr Zelensky for postponing elections and claiming Ukraine started the war with Russia.
Mr Healey and Sir Keir Starmer have reiterated the UK’s support for Mr Zelensky as Russia’s invasion continues.
Praising Mr Zelensky’s commitment to his country, Mr Healey added: “He’s the elected leader of Ukraine, and he’s done what Winston Churchill did in Britain in the Second World War, suspended elections while at war.”
