Residents of the Nutmeg State are jumping for joy after the Connecticut Huskies sealed a historic Final Four double. The feat is also putting some sweat on the neck of the owner of a major New England furniture retailer.
The UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams are headed off to the showpieces of college basketball in Indianapolis and Phoenix, respectively, as they hope to add to the already-stuffed trophy cabinets in Storrs, Connecticut.
If they needed bigger cabinets, perhaps they could go to Jordan’s Furniture – a Waltham, Massachusetts-based furniture retailer that sponsored a special promotion that is on the verge of paying out.
Earlier this year, the store advertised that any purchase between January 20 and March 1 would be absolutely free if both the UConn basketball teams reached their respective national championship games.
Now, both teams are one win away from achieving that thanks to a pair of outstanding performances on Sunday afternoon.
The women’s team easily handled rivals Notre Dame before freshman Braylon Mullins knocked down the greatest shot in program history to pull off a 19-point comeback over No. 1 overall seed Duke.

If both teams reach the national championship game, then New England retailer Jordan’s Furniture will be handing out millions of dollars in refunds for purchased home wares
On social media, fans began wondering how the furniture company must be feeling now as they face the possibility of millions of dollars in refunds.
‘Jordan’s furniture might be a week away from bankruptcy,’ wrote one user on X.
Another posted, ‘Looks like Jordan’s furniture in New England is still on the hook for free furniture… What an upset!!!!’
‘Jordan’s Furniture’s insurance people are starting to get a bit nervous,’ joked Boston Herald Red Sox reporter Mac Cerullo.
One comment read, ‘Jordan’s Furniture is never gonna get promotion insurance again [laughing emoji].’
The company will not have to pay out any money of their own to customers, rather it will likely be a refund through promotion insurance.
‘Jordan’s takes out insurance policies to mitigate risk while maintaining engagement,’ Jordan’s SVP of Marketing Linda SanGiacomo told the Hartford Courant. ‘For the UConn campaign, we purchased insurance at an estimated sales level so that we can deliver on our commitments when they win.
‘As a company we are excitedly rooting for the UConn men’s and women’s teams. We want both the teams to make it to the finals and we want to give away free furniture to our great customers.’

Then, Braylon Mullins’ heroic deep triple etched him into March Madness lore forever
This isn’t the first time the furniture store has run promotions like these – nor is it the first time they may have to pay out.
In 2007, the store made a similar bet on the success of the Boston Red Sox – giving away furniture if the team won the World Series. That fall, the Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies for the title.
According to the Hartford Courant, more than 25,000 people ended up with free furniture on a payout believed to be roughly $30million.
The women’s team will have to face the winner of Monday night’s Elite Eight game between one-seed South Carolina and three-seed TCU.
As for the men, they’ll play a rematch against Illinois in Indianapolis.
