Recap: Pressure to meet Trump’s July 4 deadline placing representatives in ‘dire situation,’ says Greene

Here’s a little more on Marjorie Taylor Greene’s expression of frustration about the president’s Independence Day timeframe.

June jobs number show drop in private sector employment

“THIS GROWTH has already begun at levels never seen before” — President Donald Trump posted this about an hour before news broke that America actually lost private sector jobs in June.

Here’s Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business quickly changing the subject after reading out the numbers.

Trump insists ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will unlock economic growth

Here’s the latest cheerleading from the president, who is really attempting to persuade a handful of malcontented House Republicans with his insistence that his bill will be “one of the most successful pieces of legislation ever passed.”

Analysis: Trump and the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ have put the Senate in play for Democrats

The president may ultimately get his major domestic policy agenda over the finish line but it will come at a major cost to his party, Eric Garcia writes.

Will bad weather delay House vote?

After the House Rules Committee advanced the Big, Beautiful Bill at 1am this morning on a 7-6 vote (following 12 hours of needling from each side), the stage is set for Mike Johnson to gavel open proceedings at 9am ET.

The session will begin with a debate of indeterminate length, followed by a full chamber vote, which could come today, tomorrow or Friday.

However, that schedule could be thrown into turmoil given that a number of lawmakers, both Republican and Democrat, are currently struggling to get back to Washington because of inclement weather in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, according to The Hill.

Several representatives have said their flights have been canceled due to the stormy conditions.

Addressing the possibility of a delay in conversation with Sean Hannity on Fox last night, Speaker Johnson said: “We’re having weather delays getting everybody back right now, but assuming we have a full House… we’ll move that forward to the floor and hopefully we’re voting on this by tomorrow [Wednesday] or Thursday at latest, depending on the weather and delays and all the rest, that’s the wildfire that we can’t control.”

Republicans well short of votes for Trump’s megabill, says Frost

Speaking to MSNBC’s Jen Psaki last night, Florida Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost said that he is hearing at least 20 House Republicans are planning to vote against Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” in its current form.

Don’t believe him? Right-wing cable news outfit Newsmax is currently reporting precisely the same figure.

Republicans can only afford three rebellions, assuming a full turnout and the Democrats all vote “no.”

Twenty would represent nothing short of a disaster for House Speaker Mike Johnson, despite the breezy optimism he has expressed so far.

Fetterman moans about missing family beach trip to vote on Trump bill: ‘I just want to go home’

The “vote-a-rama” drama on Capitol Hill this week was exhausting for all concerned, from senators to staffers to journalists, but few involved appeared to enjoy it less than Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman.

Here’s Rachel Dobkin on his complaints.

Analysis: Republicans fall into line again and bring Trump’s agenda closer to reality

The president’s bill took a huge step forward yesterday, despite considerable opposition from within his own party.

Alaska centrist Lisa Murkowski became a focal point for GOP negotiators’ attention and ultimately voted for it, only to then tell reporters she hadn’t enjoyed the experience one bit.

“My hope is that the House is going to look at this and recognize that we’re not there yet,” she said.

John Bowden has this on hopes of a “John McCain moment” vanishing into thin air on a day that still fell someway short of the emphatic show of loyalty Trump will have wanted.

‘This will not sail through the House’

Here’s a little more from House Freedom Caucus duo Andy Harris and Ralph Norman on their plans to make this a long day, which will not be kindly received by President Trump.

‘It’s a s***show:’ Marjorie Taylor Greene signals Republican revolt

The MAGA congresswoman for Georgia paved the way for a House GOP rebellion against the bill during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast on Tuesday, calling the rushed timeframe to pass it “not realistic.”

“It is really a dire situation,” she told Bannon. “We’re on a time clock that’s been really set on us, so we have a lot of pressure. It’s a s***show.”

Members of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus, including chair Andy Harris and Ralph Norman, have also indicated their disquiet.

Norman called the bill “an abomination” at a House Rules Committee meeting and said: “What the Senate did, I’ll vote against it here and I’ll vote against it on the floor.”

Andy Ogles of Tennessee meanwhile called the Senate bill a “dud”, Andy Biggs of Arizona said it contains some “amazingly bad stuff” and Chip Roy of Texas said the Senate Republicans had “failed us.”

A House Republican told The Hill this week that the group chats were aflame over the Senate’s draft of the bill and said: “How did it get so much f***ing worse?”
