The New York Giants made a baffling decision when they tried to put the game away with a touchdown instead of taking easy points. President Donald Trump was among those confused.
The Giants, who recently fired head coach Brian Daboll, were holding onto a 27-24 lead in the fourth quarter over the Detroit Lions.
New York drove deep into the red zone as the clock ticked under three minutes as the Giants stared at a 4th & Goal from the six yard line.
Rather than kick a field goal to go up six points and force the Lions to score a touchdown, the Giants tried to get a touchdown of their own to go up ten points.
Things did not go to plan. Quarterback Jameis Winston threw an incomplete pass, the Lions managed to kick a field goal, and then Detroit won the game in overtime.
Reeling from the result, Trump took to Truth Social and openly questioned interim head coach Mike Kafka’s decision making.

‘Who would have done such a thing? It was CRAZY! I got to watch the end of the game and thought, when they went for the touchdown instead of the 3, “That’s Weird!!!”’
Winston’s performance breathed new life into a Giants team that has been struggling as rookies Cam Skattebo and Jaxson Dart battle injuries.
The veteran signal caller completed 18-of-36 passes for 366 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in a strong performance against Detroit.
Unfortunately for Winston and the G-Men, the Lions’ bell cow running back Jahmyr Gibbs sprinted for 219 rushing yards and two touchdowns – while also catching for 45 yards and a receiving touchdown in the victory.
New York fell to 2-10 on the season after the loss. Their next game is on Monday Night Football against the league-leading New England Patriots.
