American R&B singer Trey Songz is suing the Kansas City Police Department over a five-year-old incident which occurred at a Chiefs playoff game.

Back in January 2021, the ‘Na Na’ singer was attending the AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by the Daily Mail, the now-41-year-old singer was in his seat when other fans began to heckle him ‘because of his notoriety.’

The singer, born Tremaine Aldon Neverson, claims in the filing that those shouts ‘escalated into threats and harassment’ – leading security to be called over to his seat.

However, as the suit claims, security and police that arrived failed to protect him from ‘unruly, aggressive, and intoxicated attendees’ and instead ‘physically assaulted, wrongfully arrested, handcuffed and detained’ the singer instead.

Neverson was thrown in jail and was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. All of those charges were eventually dismissed.

The suit accuses the KCPD and the security company Whelan Event Services of ‘carelessly and negligently act[ing] without due care on the day in question, thereby directly causing or directly contributing to cause [Neverson’s] injuries.’

The filing also accuses the KCPD of use of excessive force, wrongful detainment and the unlawful arrest of Neverson – which is alleged to have caused the singer ‘serious, permanent, and progressive injuries to his person, and professional reputation.’

Damages that Neverson is seeking have not been specified in the filing.

The Kansas City Police Department declined the Daily Mail’s request for comment.

This is not the only legal issue the ‘Say Aah’ singer is dealing with.

Neverson was arrested in December 2025 and charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor assault over two separate alleged altercations at night clubs in New York City.

In one of the incidents, Neverson’s attorneys claim he was ‘confronted by individuals who instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him’ before his security intervened and an altercation broke out.

Attorneys representing the singer said of the charges, ‘He is cooperating fully and looks forward to the facts coming to light.’
