Travis Kelce reveals what he really thought about Andy Reid showdown

Chiefs star Travis Kelce has revealed his true thoughts on his bust-up with Andy Reid during their win over the New York Giants.

After a sluggish start to the season, Kansas City finally recorded their first win after beating the Giants 22-9 at MetLife Stadium.

However, the win was marred by the heated on-field clash between Kelce and head coach Reid, which viral on social media shortly after it happened.

While some fans claimed that the bust-up suggests that things are starting to unravel in Kansas City, Kelce insisted that it helped ‘take my game to another level’.

According to The Kansas City Star, he told reporters on Friday: ‘What Andy made of it. I love that guy, man. There’s nothing outside of this building that’s going to make me feel any different way.

‘We know exactly each other’s intentions. I think what Coach Reid does best is he challenges guys to be at their best, and I love that about him.

‘It definitely helped me take my game to another level that game.’

As Kelce walked off the field after another poor play, Reid could be seen screaming at him and rather than take it in his stride, the tight end instead gave it right back.

In a shocking moment, the 67-year-old then crashed into Kelce before they exchanged furious words between plays in New Jersey.

The incident was worryingly similar to the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in February 2024, when Kelce bumped his coach and caused him to lose his footing.

The similarities were not lost on NBC announcer Mike Tirico, too, who commented: ‘We’ve seen them before, kind of get heated there. You can sense the frustration on both sides of that story.’

Though he did not directly mention the incident, during the latest episode of his podcast, Kelce did praise the coach – which suggested there was no bad blood.

Initially speaking about receiver Tyquan Thornton, who starred in the game, Kelce said on New Heights: ‘He’s a smart football player.

‘Smart football players are gonna f***ing thrive in this offense, because Coach Reid’s gonna put you in positions where you get those one-on-one matchups, man. If you know how to attack it, good things are gonna f***ing happen.’

Following a first half where the Chiefs settled for three field goals, they pulled off a much-needed win in East Rutherford to earn their first victory of the season.

Kelce finished the game with four catches and 26 receiving yards, bringing his season total to 134 through three games.

The Chiefs, who have been seen clashing with each other at other points this season, will hope that their win against the Giants is a turning point for their season.

They’ll face the Ravens on Sunday afternoon in a highly-anticipated clash.
