An elderly couple have been rescued after becoming trapped inside their car during a flood, the fire service has said.
Specialist rescue crews were deployed to Bridge Reeve, near Chulmleigh, in Devon, at about 10:50 GMT.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFRS) said the car had become “partly submerged in flood water”.
Upon arrival it said the crew found “the water had already reached the door handles and was rising both inside and outside the vehicle”.
“Specialist rescue crews used a boat and water safety gear to rescue both occupants who were uninjured but left in the hands of ambulance crews to be checked over,” DSFRS added.
The fire service advised the public never to drive or walk through flooded areas.
It said: “Even shallow moving water can sweep you off your feet, there may be hidden dangers like open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris, or deep channels.
“Never drive through floodwater, vehicles can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water.
“Don’t make unnecessary trips in bad weather conditions, you could harm yourself and others too.”
