A food trader preparing for the 20th year of a popular annual food festival said he loved coming back to it because it felt “different every year”.

Daniel O’Grady, owner of Churtopia Churros, said he had been trading at the Bolton Food & Drink Festival, which starts on Friday, for 14 years.

He said the festival offered “something around every corner to see”.

Mr O’Grady told Radio Manchester: “It’s one of the biggest [food and drink] festivals in the country. Every year it’s different – we keep going back because we love it.”

Richard Brant, owner of Scrumpy Pig in Bolton, has been trading at the festival for a decade.

He said it was “something to look forward to throughout the year” because “the atmosphere is amazing – it’s really alive and kicking”.

The first day had to be cancelled last year after an overnight storm wrecked a number of stalls, leaving stock scattered through the street.

The festival, which kicks off on Friday and runs until Monday, is spread across the town centre.

This year’s festival will feature dozens of food and drink traders, as well as cooking demonstrations, live music and family events.
