  • Thomas Frank left his managerial role at Brentford for Tottenham on Thursday
  • Manchester United have already had a £55m bid for the star winger rejected

Tottenham have opened talks with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford have rejected a £55million bid from Manchester United for Mbeumo and are awaiting a second offer for the 25-year old who is valued around £70m.

The player had expressed a preference to move to United, however, Tottenham are willing to test that resolve after appointing Thomas Frank but have yet to bid.

The Lilywhites, who beat United in the Europa League final last month, are now threatening to hijack Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford.

The winger is understood to be ‘intrigued’ at the prospect of reuniting with the Dane and the clubs will now try to agree on a fee, with Brentford understood to be valuing Mbeumo in excess of £60million.

Frank was unveiled as Tottenham’s new head coach – following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou – on Thursday evening, having spent nine years at the Bees, seven of which came as manager.

One year into his tenure in the hot seat at Brentford, Frank brought in a teenage Mbeumo from Troyes and over time nurtured him into one of the most exciting attacking talents in the Premier League.

The forward, who has flourished since Ivan Toney departed last summer, netted a superb 20 Premier League goals last term, nine more than Spurs’ top scorer Brennan Johnson.

Having finished 17th in the league in the season just passed, Tottenham are now keen to add some much-needed firepower to their attack and it appears that they admire Mbeumo.

Spurs also hold interest in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa who is a target for Nottingham Forest.

They are also believed to be keen on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who netted 11 times in 37 Premier League games last term.

A second offer from United for Mbeumo is believed to be imminent, but the attraction of Champions League football at Spurs, and the adage that Frank is now at the helm, could turn the tide in Tottenham’s favour.

It is understood that the salary on offer to the winger – who is believed to hope for a mammoth £250,000-a-week – at United will be higher than what Spurs will put forward.

Mail Sport understands that the figure was quoted to the clubs who were interested in Mbeumo, although it is unclear whether United will reach it in their bid to sign him.
