  • Tottenham are aiming to bolster squad having qualified for Champions League
  • But Cristian Romero could leave the club this summer if asking price is met

Tottenham are understood to be asking in excess of £60million should Cristian Romero push to leave this summer.

The combative Argentine centre-back is regarded as one of the most important players in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

As such, the club would demand a premium for the 27-year-old, with Atletico Madrid interested in him.

Romero has been at Tottenham since 2021 when he joined, initially on loan from Atalanta before the deal was made permanent for around £13m.

A key factor in Romero’s next move in north London could be Postecoglou’s future.

Despite leading Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League final against Manchester United, the Australian could be given the axe.

Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is in doubt and the club want at least £60million

If he stays, he has made it clear he wants Romero with him.

He said recently: ‘He (Romero) is a winner. You saw that in all the big games we’ve had and the lads certainly respect him very highly.

‘He makes them walk a bit taller, so yeah from my perspective it is a no-brainer that making sure players like him (stay).

‘If he goes, who do you replace him with? There is not too many out there like him.’

Romero has become an important player for both club and country and is currently back in his homeland preparing for Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers.

They take on Chile and Colombia in the coming days.
