Production on the new Tomb Raider series has been halted after Sophie Turner suffered an injury.
The Game of Thrones actor’s injuries have been described as “minor”, and a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios said: “We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
It is currently unclear whether Turner suffered the injury while filming.
Turner is playing archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s forthcoming live-action series, but discovered a back problem while training for the role last year.

In January, she opened up about the gruelling physical training she undertook for the entirety of 2025, stating: “We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February of last year, of training.”
Turner also told The Julia Cunningham Show that she had never worked out before, which made training particularly harder.
“I also realised that it’s much easier to build muscle if you’ve worked out before in your life, which I never had. So it’s taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.”
Turner’s most popular role remains her portrayal of the eldest Stark daughter, Sansa, in HBO’s Game of Thrones, the television adaptation of George RR Martin’s epic novels.
The actor expressed her delight over playing a character far removed from Sansa, stating: “It’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.”
Based on the popular video game franchise, the new adaptation will also star Sigourney Weaver, Celia Imrie and Jason Isaacs.

Alien star Weaver will be taking on the role of Evelyn Wallis, described as a “high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents”. Meanwhile, Imrie will portray Francine, head of advancement at the British Museum, and The White Lotus star Isaacs has been cast as Lara’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay.
Series creator and showrunner Waller-Bridge said of the project: “Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!”
Turner steps into a role previously embodied both by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in earlier adaptations.
In 2024, Vikander told The Independent she was “sad” she wouldn’t be returning for a Tomb Raider sequel.
Vikander played the video game character in the latest adaptation, which was released in 2018. It was a reboot of the franchise that starred Jolie in the early 2000s.
The film received middling reviews from critics, and it earned a lacklustre $275m (£228m) at the global box office, but Vikander received a large amount of praise for the role – so much so that a sequel was on the horizon with the Swedish star set to return.
However, when MGM lost the rights to Tomb Raider, the project disintegrated, meaning a confused Vikander suddenly lost the chance to return as Croft.
The actor said she would have “of course” returned for Tomb Raider 2 should the project have moved forward, adding: “I had so much fun.”
