Tom Brady has hailed the ‘incredible work’ of Dr. Pat Soon-Shiong ahead of an interview on NewsNation next week where he is expected to claim a breakthrough in tackling cancer.

A preview clip for the discussion with Chris Cuomo was shared online on Monday, where Soon-Shiong appears to suggest he has found a way to kill cancer that is being ignored by the government. The full interview, billed ‘Killing Cancer’, will be broadcast on Tuesday, November 25.

In the 30-second preview clip, Cumo says to Soon-Shiong: ‘You’re telling me the government is aware, but dismisses, what you believe is the most important thing to be focused on?’

Soon-Shiong replies: ‘It is the only cell within us that’s never been unlocked.’ A narrator then explains that Soon-Shiong ‘says he has found a way to kill cancer.’

The clip caught Brady’s attention, with the seven-time Super Bowl winner sharing it to his millions of followers on X and writing: ‘I’ll be watching. This is incredible work that needs more attention.

‘We need more minds like this attacking our worlds biggest problems. Thank you for what you’re doing @DrPatSoonShiong.’

The 73-year-old doctor, according to the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, has spent the last 30 years ‘pursuing treatments to find the cure for cancer’.

He was born in South Africa to Chinese parents who fled China during Japan’s occupation in World War II and moved to the United States in the early 1980s.

According to Forbes, he has an estimated net worth of $5.4billion after inventing the cancer drug Abraxane, which revolutionized treatment for pancreatic cancer. In 2018, he purchased the Los Angeles Times for $500million.

He may have also appeared on sports nut Brady’s radar when, in 2010, he purchased a minority stake in NBA team the Los Angeles Lakers. He still holds that today.

Soon-Shiong later replied to Brady’s endorsement on X, saying: Thank you Tom. Your support for this work means a lot to the scientists and clinicians working 24/7 to fight cancer.’

The 48-year-old Brady is well known for turning to science to look after his age-defying body, especially in the later years of a gruelling career as an NFL quarterback.

He played until he was 45 before eventually retiring in 2023 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady followed the notoriously strict ‘TB12’ diet, which is 80 percent plant based. But red peppers are encouraged over green ones, cashews and walnuts are chosen instead of almonds and oranges are preferred to apples.

Since quitting football, Brady has gone into NFL broadcasting with Fox, where he signed a $375million 10-year deal.

He endured a rocky start in his first year last season with plenty of critics highlighting his perceived basic analysis, while other times Brady was his own worst enemy with some poor choice of words – such as saying Josh Allen used to ‘run like a spazz’.

But second time around, the attention on Brady has largely cooled in the current campaign.

And like Soon-Shiong, Brady has also gone into minority ownership of sports teams, building up a portfolio including Las Vegas Raiders, WNBA team Las Vegas Aces and English second-tier soccer team Birmingham.
