A fire officer is stood on a ladder inspecting the roof of a burned down house. They are wearing reflective gear. The roof is clearly burned through, a blackened room can also be seen through an opening in the brickwork, possibly once a window.

A person was taken to hospital but their current condition remains unclear

Three people are still missing after a house fire on Boxing Day as police investigations continue to take place.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Brimscombe Hill in Stroud, Gloucestershire, at about 03:00 GMT on Friday.

A person was able to get out of the house and was taken to hospital, Gloucestershire Police previously said, however no update on their condition has yet been given.

A cordon near the home was still in place on Saturday, and police said officers are expected to remain in the area for several days.

The force has urged people to respect the privacy of those involved “at this unimaginably difficult time”.

It added the coroner has been informed as “that is standard practice for incidents of this nature”.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Dr Simon Opher, Labour MP for Stroud, said the fire is “really shocking at Christmas time”.

“It’s just really tragic for our local community,” he said.

“I know at these sort of times Stroud really pulls together and supports neighbours, and anyone who knew the people in the house.”

A scene showing blue and white police tape across a road. In front of the tape is a white van, the road is seen on the right hand side and greenery and a wall and part of a house can be seen on the left. In the distance the fire damaged house can be seen and beyond that more houses rising up a hill.

Emergency services were called to the property on Brimscombe Hill, near Stroud, in the early hours of Boxing Day

Green Party councillor Chloe Turner, who represents Minchinhampton on Stroud District Council, said anyone who has information or needs support should contact the police.

She added her thoughts “are very much with everyone impacted by this tragic incident”.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said on Friday crews stopped the fire from spreading into neighbouring properties but the damage to the house was extensive.
