  • Here is the staggering six-figure salary he earns from playing in the IPL

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became India’s latest cricketing sensation after smashing a century of just 35 balls in the IPL on Monday.

He plundered 11 sixes en route to setting the record for the fastest-ever century by an Indian player in the tournament’s history.

Suryavanshi’s brutal knock helped Rajastan Royals coast to victory as they chased an imposing total of 209 set by Gujarat Titans.

It was made all the more impressive by the fact he was facing up to a Titans attack that included current and former Indian Test bowlers in Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma as well as wily Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan.

His remarkable innings for the Royals come after they secured his services last year following a lengthy bidding war with Delhi Capitals.

What is all the more impressive is the six-figure salary he is being paid having not long been a teenager.

After he was snapped up by Rajastan, he signed a deal worth a reported £105,000.

Speaking after the match on Sky Sports, he said: ‘It is a very good feeling. It’s my first hundred in the IPL and it’s my third innings.

The result has shown here after the practice before the tournament. I just see the ball and play.

‘Batting with [Indian Test opener Yashasvi] Jaiswal is good, he tells me what to do and he infuses positive things.

It has been a dream to get a 100 in the IPL and today it materialised. There is no fear. I don’t think much, I just focus on playing.’

However, he has been warned about getting too far ahead of himself by former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, the former opener said: ‘I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player’.

‘Look at Virat Kohli. He started at 19 and has now played all 18 IPL seasons. That’s what Vaibhav should aim for.

‘But if he thinks he’s made it just because he hit a six off his first ball and earned a crore, he might not be around next season.’
