The Premier League’s luckiest charms! Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli has NEVER lost a match he’s scored in – but which stars are the best omens? And who’s scored in 62 games without loss?!

Gabriel Martinelli has become something of a cheat code for Arsenal.

For the second game in the space of a week, the winger came off the bench to score a crucial goal on Sunday.

First he broke the deadlock against Athletic Bilbao, then he nabbed a sublime 93rd-minute equaliser against Manchester City.

And he is such a lucky charm that Martinelli has never lost any of the 47 games in which he has scored for Arsenal, including 38 in the Premier League.

When Martinelli hits the back of the net, Arsenal earn points. But it turns out his Premier League run of 38 games – 30 wins, eight draws – is only good enough for fifth in the all-time table, according to stats boffins Opta.

So, who are the Premier League’s ultimate ‘lucky charms’, who have practically guaranteed their sides points when they have bagged down the years?

Well, Darius Vassell sneaks ahead of Martinelli in fourth spot with 46 games.

The former England star plied his trade for Aston Villa and Manchester City but never got to enjoy the highs of the latter’s takeover as he was sold within a year of the Abu Dhabi United Group coming in.

In 2009 he was shipped off Turkish side Ankaragucu, where he was mobbed by 3,000 fans and escorted to his hotel by a flag-waving armada of 250 cars and 50 buses.

Unfortunately, he was evicted from that hotel five months later when the club failed to pay his bill, and he only scored four goals in 22 games before moving back to the Championship with Leicester City.

Claiming third place on our list is Diogo Jota, who went unbeaten in 52 Premier League games when he scored.

Jota’s memory will live long at Liverpool and Wolves after he and his brother Andre Silva died over the summer.

The Reds retired his number, 20, over the summer after his half-decade with the club which saw him win the Premier League twice.

In second place, we have a name who may come as a surprise: James Milner.

He is not feted for his goalscoring feats – his club career average is around an unremarkable one in every 10 games, while he has managed one in 61 for England – but he sure knows how to win a football match.

And it turns out that Milner is invincible in all 55 of the Premier League games in which he has scored.

Those goals have come for Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester City, Liverpool and finally Brighton.

After a dry spell of five seasons, Milner converted from the penalty spot against City in August to become the divisions second-oldest ever goalscorer, aged 39 years and 239 days. In a pleasing quirk, he also holds the title for the second-youngest.

But none of that is enough to unseat our top man.

Congratulations to Gabriel Jesus who, according to Opta, has gone 62 Premier League games as a goalscorer for Manchester City and Arsenal without tasting defeat.

Remarkably, 57 of those occasions have resulted in a victory, with only five a draw.

Perhaps the sensible thing for Mikel Arteta to do, then, is play Martinelli and Jesus when they are both available.
