A track meet at a suburban Dallas high school was the site of a tragedy after a student was stabbed to death.
The incident occurred at Kuykendall Stadium on Wednesday morning in the city of Frisco, Texas at the University Interscholastic League’s District 11-5A championship meet.
According to Frisco Police, an altercation between two students resulted in one stabbing the other.
Police have a suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, in custody and have charged him with murder. Bond has not yet been set.
The student Anthony stabbed, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was rushed to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.
Hours later, police announced that Metcalf had died from his injuries.

After the incident occurred, the meet was suspended, the stadium was ‘immediately secured’, and students were sent back to their home campuses, according to Frisco ISD officials.
‘UIL is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that took place at the District 11-5A track meet on April 2 at Frisco ISD’s Kuykendall Stadium,’ the UIL said in a statement.
‘UIL staff is in communication with district officials to provide support and assistance during this time. Our thoughts go out to those impacted.’
According to WFAA, Metcalf was a student at Memorial High School in Frisco, which was one of seven schools competing in the event.
Police did not say what led to the altercation, but said that there isn’t any threat to the public. An investigation is underway.
According to an account on X, formerly Twitter, that appears to have belonged to Metcalf, he was hoping to go to college to play football.
The bio of the account lists him at 6-feet tall and 220 pounds as a linebacker. He’s also listed as having a 3.97 GPA.
