The rugby league community is in shock after the sudden death of a South Sydney junior player.

Coaches and teammates have praised Johannes Logan, 19, after his recent sudden death.

Facebook pages were flooded with tributes and as of 3pm on Wednesday, nearly $40,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe page set up to help the Logan family.

Logan was in the South Sydney Jersey Flegg Cup squad for next season after playing SG Ball for the club in 2025.

South Sydney captain Cameron Murray was one of many who donated, sending $250 to Logan’s family. Former Rabbitohs forward Jacob Host also donated.

‘It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Johannes Logan, an 18-year-old rugby player from Coogee, New South Wales,’ one of the tribute posts read.

‘Johannes, a talented and dedicated athlete, had shown exceptional promise in his first year playing in the SG Ball Cup, and many saw him as a rising star of Australian rugby.’

Originally from Orange, Logan played rugby union for the famous St Joseph’s College team in Sydney.

He switched to rugby league, where he quickly made an impact as a forward who had a powerful presence on the field and was admired for his skill, work ethic and fearless approach.

‘Coaches and teammates alike praised him not only for his talent but for his passion, determination, and integrity as a player and as a person,’ a tribute post read.

‘Off the field, Johannes was known for his warmth, kindness, and strong character. Friends and teammates remember him as a supportive, positive, and encouraging presence – someone who inspired others through both his athletic ability and his genuine nature.’

Tributes continue to pour in online for the teenager.

‘Absolutely devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Logan family,’ one person wrote on Facebook.

‘Absolutely heartbreaking. Sending my love and prayers to the Logan family. Such a loss,’ another said.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been contacted for comment.
