AI Safety Grants now open for applications
The AI Safety Institute (AISI), along with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Innovate UK, has launched the Systemic AI Safety Grants programme.
This programme offers seed grants of up to £200,000 to support research focused on making artificial intelligence (AI) systems safer. The goal is to protect important areas like healthcare, finance, and energy services, where AI may be used in the next two to five years.
The aim is to identify major risks and develop long-term solutions, helping society better handle AI-related challenges while making the most of its benefits.
Projects should focus on safety issues like tracking how AI is used or misused and identifying risks in certain sectors. Ideas are sought that can help government take action, using new tools and technology, to make society more resilient to AI-related risks.
Successful applicants will receive seed grants, as well as ongoing support, computing resources where needed, and access to a community of AI and sector-specific domain experts.
The grant call will run for six weeks, closing on 26 November 2024.
