Symondsbury Kitchen has reopened its doors following refurbishment work designed to refresh and update the well-known café.

The venue welcomed visitors again in late January after a brief closure while renovation work was completed to modernise the interior.

“The aim has always been to create somewhere people feel comfortable spending time. Whether that’s stopping for coffee, sharing a meal with friends or simply taking a pause during the day. The refresh allows the space to evolve while keeping the warmth and character people know,” said a spokesperson for the café.

The interior now features nature-inspired colours that complement the Estate’s Fern Green branding, along with newly updated furniture and enhanced seating areas.

A breakfast bar has also been introduced, creating a versatile space suitable for casual dining, coffee breaks and remote working.

The updated design aims to reflect the surrounding countryside while encouraging guests to relax and spend longer enjoying the space.

Symondsbury Kitchen originally opened in 2013 after a major restoration project led by Julia and Philip Colfox. The café occupies a building situated within the historic Symondsbury country estate.

The Colfox family restored the building after it had fallen into poor condition following the end of farming activities, converting it into a welcoming café environment.

Since its opening, Symondsbury Kitchen has become a popular destination for walkers, families and residents in the local community. More than ten years later, it continues to attract visitors to West Dorset.

Families remain an important part of the café’s atmosphere, with books, games and drawing materials available for children to help create a relaxed environment for guests of all ages.

The menu continues to follow a seasonal farm-to-fork approach, focusing on locally sourced ingredients and accessible dining options.

Visitors can enjoy breakfasts, toasties, daily specials, salads, fish pie, homemade cakes, speciality coffee and a menu designed especially for children.

Symondsbury Kitchen is now fully open once again, continuing its vision of combining heritage surroundings, seasonal food and a welcoming rural setting.
