Surfing icon Kelly Slater and his partner Kalani Miller have announced the exciting news that they are expecting their second baby.

The happy couple welcomed their first son, Tao, in 2024, but their family is growing quickly, with Kelly and Kalani taking to Instagram to share a heartwarming video of themselves on the beach, announcing that they are due to have a baby girl in the spring.

Slater, aged 54, was seen in the clip embracing his partner and their young son, Tao, as they laughed and smiled during a walk along the sand.

Kalani, a co-founder of a popular swimwear brand called Mikoh, showed off her baby bump as she and the 11-time World Champion shared a kiss.

‘Baby Girl arriving Spring 2026,’ the couple captioned the video, which had a black-and-white filter.

Stevie Wonder’s 1976 hit Isn’t She Lovely, was rather fittingly embedded as the backing track on the video. The American singer had written the song to celebrate the birth of his daughter, Aisha Morris.

The comments section was filled with messages of congratulations, with Aussie surfing legend Mick Fanning writing: ‘Congrats to you all!!’

The World Surf League published a ‘goat’ emoji, adding: ‘Congrats!!’

‘Best Chapter,’ Shane Dorian added.

The couple had published a similar video back in March 2024 to announce that they were pregnant with their first baby, Tao.

During that clip, Kelly and Kalani were seen in a video holding hands and walking along a beach towards the sea. The couple stood in the waves as the camera panned around to Kalani’s baby bump.

While the couple keep their relationship pretty private, it is understood that the pair met nearly two decades ago during a surf trade show in San Diego, California.

‘I remember exactly seeing him for the first time and like time really did stop,’ Miller said to Graham Bensiger, when asked about the moment she and Kelly met.

At that time, she had also been asked about whether she and Kelly wanted to expand their family.

‘Hopefully,’ she replied. ‘I’m from a family of four. He’s from a family of three. Now, when I see people travelling with four kids, I can’t imagine my family or anyone doing that,’ she admitted. ‘It’s crazy. I don’t know, maybe two or three.’

‘Our favourite person! Happy birthday to my love @kellyslater.’

Their baby will be Slater’s third child, with the surfer also having had a daughter with his ex, Tamara Mitchell in 1996 called Taylor.

Slater had appeared to have unofficially retired from professional surfing in 2024 after being axed by the Mid-Season Cut at Margaret River.

While Slater has appeared at exhibition events, he has not competed on the World Surf League’s Championship Tour since then.

However, in a huge twist, it appears Slater can’t stay away from the sport, with the surfing great returning to take part in the Da Hui backdoor Shootout earlier in January.
