Stunning sports reporter Talia Baia branded the Florida Gators’ agonizing March Madness defeat her ‘worst heartbreak yet.’

The defending champions and No. 1 seed were stunned by Iowa in a 73-72 thriller, knocking them out of the NCAA tournament and ending their quest for a second consecutive national title.

Baia – a diehard Gators alum who went viral for leaving Florida star Bennett Andersen ‘smitten’ during a locker room interview last year – was left devastated by the result.

Baia, who now works as a sports reporter for ABC57 News, shared her heartbreak in a series of posts on X.

She shared a video of her anxiously watching Florida win last year’s championship in the stands, alongside another clip of her emotionally taking in the Gators’ defeat on Sunday from home.

‘2025 vs. 2026,’ she wrote alongside a broken heart emoji.

‘This might just be my worst heartbreak yet. Don’t text, don’t call,’ Baia wrote in another post.

‘This is 100% worse than a breakup maybe even a divorce.’

Baia burst into the spotlight during last year’s March Madness tournament, while working as a student reporter for ESPN Gainesville.

Her locker room interview with Gators star Andersen following Florida’s 87-71 Sweet 16 win over Maryland went viral.

As he answered a number of questions, fans couldn’t help but notice the Florida guard’s beaming smile and wide eyes throughout their interview.

A number of users were quick to conclude that Andersen was love-struck while speaking with the ESPN reporter.

Baia spent over three years juggling her position with ESPN Gainesville and a role as a social media manager for Barstool Sports while carrying out a Sports and Media degree.

During her time with ESPN, she served as an MLB Spring Training reporter while also reporting on the Florida Gators men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Now, she has kickstarted her professional career, covering Notre Dame for ABC57.

Nine-seed Iowa’s upset over Florida on Sunday evening was the first thriller of the 2026 tournament.

Despite playing on home soil, the Gators were undone by a poor final decision by guard Xavien Lee that saw Florida become the first one-seed to fall to a nine-seed in eight years.

Iowa’s Alvaro Folgueiras, who controversially threw a punch at a Florida player in a scuffle earlier in the game, knocked down the go-ahead triple with 4.5 seconds to go.

After Florida drew up a play, Lee drove the full length of the court and attempted to get a pass off to forward Thomas Haugh.

The pass was tipped and the buzzer sounded, marking Florida as the first one-seed to lose to a nine-seed since Xavier fell to Florida State in 2018.
