Struggling Arizona Cardinals make decision on starting quarterback amid Kyler Murray injury issues

The Arizona Cardinals are planning to start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback against the Dallas Cowboys as they look to snap a five-game losing streak.

Kyler Murray is the team’s QB1 but has struggled with both form and injury this season, missing the past two games.

Murray had been on track to return this weekend from his foot sprain, but head coach Jonathan Gannon has revealed that the game comes too soon for him to start.

He did add that Murray will be active and could have a role in the game on Monday night, but it will be Brissett starting a third game in a row.

In the last two games – both losses, against the Colts and Packers – Brissett has thrown four touchdowns and one interception, putting himself in the conversation to become the permanent starter in Arizona.

Murray has been spoken about as a potential trade candidate for the Cardinals, but given his injury it is unlikely he will be moved before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Cardinals are coming off a bye week, which has allowed Murray more time to recover than he would have otherwise been allowed.

Earlier in the week, Gannon had described how that extra rest was beneficial for ‘everybody’, describing practice as ‘really good’.

‘You start playing games and the train’s rolling I think for everybody,’ the head coach said. ‘They’re rested and it looks a little bit different, so it was very beneficial.’

Arizona started the season 2-0 but has since slumped to five defeats in a row, now sitting bottom of the NFC West.
