Wes Streeting has revealed that he told Sir Keir Starmer that he would challenge him for leadership of the Labour Party during their 16-minute meeting at Downing Street last week.
The Ilford MP gave his first broadcast interview since resigning as health secretary to BBC Radio 4’s Today show on Thursday (21 May).
Streeting said he was “very honest with the prime minister privately about where I thought the Government was going wrong”.
When asked if he told Sir Keir that he would go run against him as leader, he confirmed he would, before adding: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with ambition.”
