Wes Streeting can’t be planning a leadership bid because he went to the cinema with a friend at the weekend, a minister has claimed.
Both the health secretary and former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner are seen as potential leadership contenders as Sir Keir Starmer fights for his political future following Labour’s dismal local election results.
Speaking to Sky News on Monday (11 May) ahead of the prime minister’s key speech, Peter Kyle said that he and Mr Streeting went for dinner and saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 over the weekend.
“Somebody who was planning to pull the plug and launch a leadership bid in a couple of days doesn’t go to the cinema with a friend,” Mr Kyle said.
