PA MediaA League One football club has spoken out against what it said was the unauthorised use of its club crest alongside “anti-LGBTQ+ symbols”.
Stockport County issued the statement this week after it was made aware of the club’s crest being used, without permission, on “political propaganda” and alongside “deeply concerning imagery that promotes hate and division”.
The club said it would take all necessary steps, including legal action, to prevent the misuse of its crest, particularly “in a political or hateful context” .
“Our club crest is a registered trademark and a symbol of unity, community, and the collective passion for football at Edgeley Park,” the club said.
“It represents all our fans, staff, players, and the wider Stockport community, regardless of their individual political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, or any other characteristic.”
‘No place for hate’
It is understood the statement relates to images of stickers that have circulated on social media, some of which also bear anti-asylum seeker slogans.
The club said: “There is no place for hate, discrimination, or exclusion of any kind at Edgeley Park or within our community.
“We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and safe.”
Stockport was promoted to League One last season, but missed out on being further promoted to the Championship after being beaten by Leyton Orient on penalties in the play-off semi-final.
The Hatters are set to play their first match of the 2025/26 season against the Bolton Wanderers at Edgeley Park on Sunday.
