Stockport County apply to build temporary roof to Railway End | Manchester News

Stockport County have submitted a planning application for permission to build a temporary roof above the Railway End stand at their Edgeley Park home.

The application will be given consideration by Stockport Council’s Planning and Highways Committee in August.

The club said that if they are granted permission it would mean they can comply with the English Football League’s requirements to make a minimum of 10% of total stadium capacity available to away supporters for league fixtures with at least 20% of that allocation under cover.

The Railway End will be used to house away fans during the upcoming season, the club said, meaning the full length of the Pop Side will be used by home fans during high-profile fixtures.

Ken Knott, club chair, said the move would “strengthen the club’s ability to maximise attendance capacity and provide County fans with access to more tickets for games at Edgeley Park”.

“We are seeking a temporary permission for a proposed temporary roof covering for up to three years, and our ambitious plans for the stadium will be brought forward in due course,” he added.

“As we have consistently stated to fans, the plans for a new Railway End Stand will, to a large extent, be dependent on ongoing on-field success and a promotion into the Championship.”
