Stephen A. Smith recently put his presidential ambitions aside, but the ESPN personality still felt compelled to slam Donald Trump’s stunning social media post on Saturday.

‘Robert Mueller just died,’ Trump wrote after the passing of the former FBI Director and special counsel, who led the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election. ‘Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!’

Trump’s hatred of Mueller stems from the two-year investigation the President famously dismissed as a ‘witch hunt.’ Mueller’s team found Russia interfered in the 2016 election on Trump’s behalf, and although Trump was never charged with collusion, he was never exonerated either.

Smith, a popular sports pundit who has increasingly weighed in on political issues, slammed Trump’s statement about Mueller on Saturday.

‘See……this is the B.S. I’m talking about,’ Smith wrote on X. ‘This is a disgusting thing coming from our Commander In Chief — especially about a VETERAN and PURPLE HEART recipient. #DamnShameful!’

Prior to becoming director of the FBI, Mueller served with the Marines for three years as an officer during the Vietnam War. He led a rifle platoon and was later awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and two Navy Commendation Medals.

Smith wasn’t the only sports figure to respond to Trump’s comment about Mueller.

Former New York Giants and Jets offensive lineman Jumbo Elliott also reacted online, writing: ‘This real? Never know w trump and this app. Needless to say it would be absolutely disgusting and unworthy of the office.’

Smith, who considers himself an independent, has also taken aim at Trump’s war in Iran.

The ESPN host savaged the Trump administration as the conflict entered its third week amid rising gas prices.

‘What the f*** is wrong with y’all? This is some straight bulls***! It’s gotta stop,’ Smith fumed. ‘This is not what America is supposed to be about.

‘We, as American citizens, are not supposed to be treated this way. And the GOP has their fingerprints all over it because they’ve allowed the president to get away with it.’

Smith claimed that ‘Teflon Don’ is risking the future of the Republican Party and that Christmas has arrived early for their rivals, the Democrats.

‘Do you know why it’s easy to get at the President of the United States right now, to point the finger of blame at him? Because he is f***ing up, that’s why,’ Smith said on his SiriusXM radio show.

‘Somebody has to say it… he’s messing up so badly that the Republican Party is in a world of trouble. Somebody better wake them up real quick.’

Smith insisted he was speaking as a ‘registered independent’ who is not trying to ‘take sides’ between left and right. ‘I can’t stand none of your a***es,’ he said about politicians.

But the ESPN host warned: ‘The GOP is in danger of eviscerating itself to a degree it may never recover from – or at the very least take a long time to recover from.

‘Assuming the Democrats don’t resemble idiots and mess up the momentum that has accidentally fallen right in their laps. You can’t make this stuff up. Christmas has arrived for the Democratic Party in the month of March, 2026.’

Smith took particular aim at Vice President JD Vance for ‘lying his a** off’ after Vance claimed gas prices were higher under Joe Biden.

During an extraordinary rant, he also slammed the Democrats and claimed Trump is reaping what he sowed by ‘bullying’ America’s allies. He even impersonated the President.

”Everything is great, everything is wonderful. How could you think otherwise? We’re winning the war… it’s not really a war but if it was, we’re winning,” Smith continued. ‘This is the kind of nonsensical s*** coming out of his mouth.

‘And somehow, someway, you have Republicans out there playing a role of apologist, forgetting to do their job and thinking it’s not going to come back to cost them.’

Smith also took aim at Vice President JD Vance (L) and Secretary of State Marco Rubio (R)

Smith recently indicated he’s unlikely to run for the White House after previously teasing the possibility.

‘I think it’s all bulls***,’ Fox’s Sean Hannity told Smith of his rumored 2028 White House run. ‘I don’t think you’re running, am I right?’

Smith, who recently signed an ESPN deal rumored to be worth around $20 million annually, pointed to the potential loss of income to explain his dwindling interest in the presidency.

‘I don’t think I’m running either because I gotta give up my money,’ Smith said. ‘I ain’t giving up my money, Sean.

‘I can tell you right now, let me put the presidential aspirations to bed. If I have to give up my money, it’s not happening.’

Pressed on who he would vote for in 2028, Smith pointed to Democrats like governors Wes Moore of Maryland and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, as well as Republican Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, whom he referred to as ‘an adult in the room.’
