After letting a 14 point lead slip out of their grasp, St. John’s guard Dylan Darling hit a last-second shot to beat four-seed Kansas to book the school’s first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1999.

St. John’s led 56-42 with over eight minutes remaining – only to give up a large Kansas run in the final two minutes in San Diego.

After projected top-three pick Darryn Peterson tied the game at 65-65, Darling cut to the basket for a barely contested layup that rattled home to give the Johnnies the victory.

It’s the first trip to the Sweet 16 for the Johnnies in 27 years, when they were led by the likes of Ron Artest and Tyrone Grant in coach Mike Jarvis’ first season.

The Johnnies will now travel all the way back to the East Coast where they will take on No. 1 overall seed Duke in Washington, DC.
