  • In a clip shared by the coach, he tells him not to stay in one position for too long

Jon Jones’ coach Henry Cejudo can be seen showing the returning UFC star exactly how to beat Ciryl Gane in sensational footage which has emerged after his submission win on Saturday night.

Jones destroyed Gane inside a round of his highly-anticipated comeback bout at UFC 285, forcing the Frenchman to tap out after two minutes and four seconds of their contest.

The ease at which he cruised to victory and claimed the heavyweight title after three years out of the Octagon only underlines his status as the greatest MMA fighter of all time, yet Jones has Cejudo to thank for his latest achievement.

In a clip shared by Cejudo himself after the fight, the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion – who was part of Jones’ training camp in the lead-up to his return – is seen teaching him the exact move he went on to execute to perfection against Gane.

‘Let’s say you have Gane here,’ Cejudo says as he pins another fighter up against a wall. ‘Switch position, go to something bigger.

‘Know when you have a position lost, ‘cos the last thing you want to do Jon is blow the watts in your hands and your wrists.

‘You might be in this position here, don’t fight it too much, especially if you know he’s going to get out. If he is going to get out, you front cover.’

After shifting to the other side of the opponent and blocking his attempt to wriggle out of the clinch, a move Jones pulled off almost identically on the night, Cejudo then says: ‘If you’re able to just hold him here, you’re good here… elbows, keep his head inside, be able to drain him there.

‘So just try not to make that mistake, being in a position too long.’

It’s fair to say Jones took the advice on board, as he performed a carbon copy of the manoeuvre and forced the submission with just over three minutes of the first round remaining.

The 35-year-old has now claimed UFC titles at two weight divisions, having previously reigned supreme at lightweight.

And now he is desperate to battle it out with legendary heavyweight Stipe Miocic, who was in attendance at the packed T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

‘Ohh yeah baby, you all want to see me beat up Stipe? One thing I know about the UFC is that we give the fans what they want to see,’ he told Joe Rogan after the victory.

‘Stipe, I hope you’ve been training my guy, you’re the greatest heavyweight of all time and that’s what I want, I want you real bad.’

He added: ‘I’m so excited, I’ve been working on this for a long time. A lot of people thought I wouldn’t come back, I read that all the time. I’ve been faithful to the goal and the mission.

‘I had the strong conviction that if I was to get him down to the ground, the fight would be in my area.’
