Rising Spanish golfer Jose Ballester may have landed himself in hot water – after urinating into historic Rae’s Creek during his first round.
Amid cheers from the gallery, the 21-year-old sprinted to the water on the 13th and promptly relieved himself.
When back in the clubhouse an unrepentant Ballester, who could now face the wrath of Augusta National officials, defended his actions, claiming he had forgotten there was a restroom next to the tee box.
‘I’m like, I really need to pee,’ last year’s US Amateur champion said after carding four over. ‘I didn’t really know where to go…I’m like, I’m just going to sneak here in the river and probably people would not see me that much, and then they clapped for me.’
When asked if he was concerned about action from officials Ballester responded: ‘They saw me. It was not embarrassing at all for me. If I had to do it again, I would do it again.’
