- Kagiso Rabada apologised on Saturday after he failed a recreational drugs test
- The South Africa fast bowler insisted the controversy ‘will not define’ him
- The length of the 29-year-old’s ban was not disclosed by Cricket South Africa
Kagiso Rabada apologised on Saturday ‘to all those who I have let down’ after failing a recreational drugs test.
Fast bowler Rabada, crucial to South Africa’s chances of winning June’s World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s, has not played for Gujarat Titans since March 29, but is back at the Indian Premier League following a brief spell in South Africa.
‘Moving forward, this moment will not define me,’ the 29-year-old vowed, revealing his ban but not its duration.
In a statement, Cricket South Africa later said ‘the incident is regrettable,’ but also fell short of announcing details including Rabada’s punishment.
In the County Championship, Joe Root held Yorkshire’s batting together at Headingley with 90 compiled over four hours after Australia all-rounder Beau Webster’s rapid, debut 85.
Jordan Cox, selected alongside Root for England’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe later this month, made the first 50 of a ball-dominated contest, reaching 61 not out to put Essex on top at Taunton after Somerset were dismissed for just 145.
