British skateboarding sensation Sky Brown secured her second consecutive world championship title in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but her thoughts immediately turned to global affairs rather than her triumph.

The 17-year-old dominated the women’s park category at the Skateboarding World Championships on Sunday, despite the event being curtailed by adverse weather conditions before all final runs could be completed.

Speaking to World Skate in the moments after the win, Brown reflected on her victory, stating: “To win, to be a world champion on International Women’s Day means a lot but there’s bigger things going on. This feels huge and I am so thankful but there are bigger things. I just pray for peace for the world.”

Brown’s impressive score of 88.16, achieved across her initial two runs, was enough to clinch the title. Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa secured second place with 84.36, while American Minna Stess took third with 83.90.

Despite her success, Brown expressed a touch of disappointment regarding the truncated final.

“The level is crazy,” she remarked. “I had to put a lot down to get here, but I’m definitely bummed how we couldn’t fully do a final.”

The latest victory adds to Brown’s growing list of accolades, which includes the 2023 women’s park title and two Olympic bronze medals for Team GB, the first of which she earned at just 13 years old at the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021.

Brown is Britain’s youngest-ever Olympic medallist, and she followed that up by battling through shoulder pain to get on the podium again at the Paris Games in 2024.

Brown will have just turned 20 years old when the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics come around,, but she is already looking well-placed to add to her medal tally at those Games after her almost faultless performance in Brazil over the weekend.
