  • New Rangers boss Danny Rohl suffered defeat on his first game in the dugout.
  • The Norwegians hit three without reply against the toothless visitors, who have yet to pick up a point in this season’s Europa League.

Danny Rohl got off to a losing start as Rangers manager after his side fell to a deserved defeat at the hands of SK Brann in Norway.

Emil Kornvig capitalised on defensive slackness to put the hosts in front shortly before half-time after Rangers’ big-money summer signing Yousseff Chermiti passed up a wonderful chance to give the visitors an early lead.

Jacob Sorensen then doubled Brann’s advantage on the 55-minute mark, ghosting in unopposed to head beyond Jack Butland.

Noah Holm got on the scoresheet late on to put the icing on the cake of what was a fine performance for the front man.

For Rangers, this was a third consecutive loss in the Europa League, leaving them with a mountain to climb if they are to have any hope of progressing in the competition.

Our man Kevin McKenna was on hand to run the rule over Rohl and his men on another disappointing night on the continent for the Scots.

RANGERS (4-3-3-1)

Jack Butland 6

Made one big stop in early stages to keep scores level. Once again let down by the men in front of him.

James Tavernier 4.5

Captain was posted missing as Finne ghosted in behind to set up the opener. Offered nothing going forward.

Nasser Djiga 5

Largely struggled against the physicality of the hosts’ frontline. Simply didn’t look comfortable at any stage.

John Souttar 5

Didn’t cover himself in glory as Brann cut through the defence to go one up. Needless booking summed up his night.

Jayden Meghoma 4.5

Caught in no-man’s land as Sorensen headed in the second. Distribution at other end not up to scratch either.

Nico Raskin 5

Should have perhaps done better with headed chance early on. Lost Holm for the third goal.

Joe Rothwell 5

Questions remain over what he offers this team. Neat and tidy in the middle but nowhere near influential enough.

Oliver Antman 4

One excellent first-half cross deserved to have someone on the end of it. Guilty of coughing up possession too easily.

Thelo Aasgaard 5

Started brightly but faded. Fluffed his lines inside the penalty area in the first half with the scores level.

Djeidi Gassama 4

So often the go-to guy on European nights, but this was an off-night for the winger. Barely involved at all.

Summer signing Youssef Chermiti once again struggled to have any impact in the final third

Youssef Chermiti 4

Had a glorious chance to put side in front, but his close-range header was tame. Hold-up play was poor.

Danny Rohl 4

An eye-opening night for the new boss as he watched his side capitulate. Plenty of work to do, but he knew that already.

SUBSTITUTES: Moore (Antman, 56), Miovski (Aasgaard, 64), Barron (Rothwell, 64), Cornelius (Djiga, 76), Danilo (Chermiti, 76).

SK BRANN (4-3-3): Dyngeland; De Roeve (Hansen, 78), Knudsen, Helland, Dragsnes; Kornvig, Sorensen (Sande, 78), Gudmundsson; Mathisen (Pedersen, 68), Holm (Remmem, 85), Finne (Haaland, 68).

REFEREE: Vasilis Fotias (GRE) 6
