Five men and a 17-year-old boy have been sentenced to life in jail for killing 21-year-old drug dealer Janayo Lucima.

They were found guilty at the Old Bailey of murder on 16 July.

Lucima, who served a jail term in 2021 for helping to dismember a musician, was killed by a single bullet to the chest as he opened his front door in Kensington last year.

The shooting, described in court as a “planned and organised execution” linked to a drugs dispute, happened when one of the convicted men, 22-year-old Khuder Al Kurdi, lured him out of his home in Barons Court, where gunman Mohamed Mansaray was lying in wait.

The convicted defendants:

  • Mohamed Mansaray, 18, of Neasden, north-west London who was sentenced to at least 27 years in prison
  • Khuder Al Kurdi, 22, of Barons Court, was sentenced to at least 33 years for his “pivotal role” in organising the murder
  • Muktar Said, 24, of Hammersmith, received a minimum sentence of 29 years
  • Issa Siteri, 19, of Kensington, was sentenced to at least 28 years
  • Yusuf Abdi, 19, of Westminster, was handed a sentence of at least 28 and a half years
  • A 17-year-old boy received a sentence of at least 22 years

The jury failed to reach verdicts on two other defendants, a man and a boy, and a retrial will be held in 2026.

Judge Simon Mayo KC paid tribute to the “remarkable dignity and composure” of Mr Lucima’s family, who sat through the five-month trial.

He apologised to them for the “bravado” displayed by the defendants who smiled and laughed as they were sent down.

Earlier, Mr Lucima’s mother Winifred Ayo said: “Janayo was full of dreams even though he had not figured out how to accomplish them.

“But he was heartlessly taken away from us by self-centred young men steeped in a sub-culture of violence with complete disregard for human life.
