A former MP has become the first contestant to leave Celebrity Big Brother this year, after a public vote.

Sir Michael Fabricant was a Conservative member of parliament in Staffordshire for more than 30 years, most recently for the Lichfield constituency.

He was booed by the crowds as he was interviewed by presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best on the walkway on Monday.

In a video posted to X by Celebrity Big Brother, he said the experience was “completely different” to what he had expected.

“I thought I would have to endure it day-by-day,” he said.

He described his fellow housemates, including singer Chesney Hawkes, actors Jack P Shepherd and Patsy Palmer, and television presenters Trisha Goddard and Angelica Bell as “lovely”.

“What I wanted to do in the house was cheer everybody up.”

Sir Michael lost his seat in the general election in July to Labour’s David Robertson.

Lichfield District Council leader Doug Pullen previously said said he was “not surprised” Sir Michael had been signed up for the show.
