During an interview with ‘s political editor Chris Mason, Sir Keir Starmer refused to say whether he will sack Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary Angela Rayner if she is found to have broken the ministerial code over her tax affairs.
“Angela Rayner has referred herself to the Independent Adviser”, the prime minister told Mason.
Rayner referred herself to Sir Laurie Magnus after she admitted underpaying stamp duty on an £800,000 flat in Hove.
Starmer said he expects the adviser will be “comprehensive” in his report as well as quick, adding that he wants to let the process “take its course”.
