- Carreno Busta had words with the umpired as he demanded a supervisor
There were heated scenes at the Girona Challenger tennis event on Thursday as Pablo Carreno Busta pushed an umpire during a disagreement over a decision.
Carreno Busta, formerly No 10 in the world, wasn’t happy with a call during a tie-break in the final set and made his feelings known.
He approached the official and made it clear he wouldn’t continue until a supervisor was brought in.
Carreno Busta continued to have words with the umpire during a long delay and shoved him as it went on.
A line judge had called one of his opponent Iliyan Radulov’s shots out but official Ali Katebi came down to check the mark of the ball in the clay and overturned the decision.
Carreno Busta was incensed and stormed up to him as he was making his way back to his chair.

Carreno Vusta was not happy with a call during a crucial moment in the final set of the match

The Spaniard still went on to win the match and book his place in the quarter-finals
‘But why? Why in this moment?’ the Spaniard asked before putting his hands on him.
‘Call the supervisor. Call the supervisor. Give me a warning but call the supervisor,’ he said after the incident.
‘Don’t shout at me, okay? What do you want to say to the supervisor, then I’ll call it. For the ball, I cannot call the supervisor,’ Katebi replied.
‘You cannot do this. Because you are so bad, and the ball is out. They called out the ball,’ Carreno Busta replied.
‘Call the supervisor because I’m not agreeing that you are sitting in this chair. We cannot continue.’
The umpire duly handed handed Carreno Busta a warning for pushing him, saying: ‘I have to give you a code now for the first one because of touching me. You have to give me a reason to call the supervisor.’
‘Okay, give me a warning. I don’t want to play like this because you are so bad and you cannot sit in the chair,’ he responded as he sat on his bench refusing to continue.
The supervisor did eventually arrive and it was decided after a long discussion that they would replay the point.
Carreno Busta will have felt happier with what played out after that as he sealed a 6-2 5-7 7-6(4) win to set up a quarter-final showdown with Marin Cilic.
