An amateur Uruguayan football match descended into chaos and resulted in one player being knocked out amid shameful scenes on the day.
During Paysandu Interior’s match against rivals Mercedes in the OFI National Selection Cup, players from both side’s clashed during a heated moment on the pitch.
The hosts prevailed in the first leg, beating the current champions 1-0 – however the match will be better remembered for the shocking brawl the occurred.
In a video seen online, a foul by the visitors’ player Mario Gonzalez led to a melee involving Enzo Echeveste, who immediately ran towards his opponent.
After being surrounded by Interior’s players, Gonzalez threw a right hook towards Echeveste, who was immediately knocked out and fell to the floor.
Gonzalez was shown a red card for the act of violent conduct as Echeveste’s team-mates remonstrated with the official after the shocking act.

Club medical staff, meanwhile, rushed to Echeveste’s side to help him recover from the brutal punch.
The incident occurred with just two minutes remaining in the match, leaving a nasty stain upon the Cup clash.
The incident comes less than a month after parents broke into a mass brawl at a youth football match in England.
A scrap broke out between players in an under-10s match in Kent, with one boy being punched in the head by an opponent.
That alarming move caused parents and coaches to stream onto the pitch, but from there the footage only gets more worrying.
Multiple men rushed on to the pitch and started scrapping with each other, with one child bowled over from behind.
From there, dozens of adults rush into the commotion and mothers can be heard screaming as children are shepherded out of the way.
Some continue scrapping for over a minute until some semblance of order appears to be restored.
