- Formula One icon Sergio Perez is reportedly in talks over a return to the grid
- The news emerged two months after he left Red Bull following a tough season
Sergio Perez is reportedly in talks with a Formula One team over a full-time return after the Mexican driver left Red Bull.
Just two months ago, the six-time Grand Prix winner announced his exit following a poor 2024 season, finishing 224 points behind champion and colleague Max Verstappen in the standings.
His disappointing results meant that he and Verstappen could not win the Constructors’ Championship last year, despite the Dutchman’s victory in the Drivers’ Championship.
That award went to McLaren, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri delivering.
However, according to Spanish outlet Marca, Perez is set for a new start and is in talks with Formula One team Cadillac over a return for their entry in 2026.
It is understood that the Mexican already has had contact with his potential team, who are eager to bring an experienced driver as a ‘priority’.

According to reports, the Cadillac team – who will enter the grid in 2026 – are searching for an experienced driver
The report emerged after it had been confirmed that Cadillac had reached an agreement with US giant General Motors for their Formula One entry.
They became the 11th team to join the grid despite the fact that they will not be allowed to produce their own engines until 2028.
The Cadillac team will have to buy a customer engine, and it is understood that there were talks held with Ferrari.
However, Perez has not won a race since April 2023, while his colleague Verstappen beat him in all of their seasons together, also claiming a total of four world championship titles.
His experience speaks for himself, having competed between 2011 and 2024 for McLaren, Racing Point and Red Bull.
Leaving Red Bull last year, Perez said: ‘I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Red Bull. We broke records and reached remarkable milestones.’
