Seattle Seahawks star DeMarcus Lawrence has thrown his support behind Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show by insisting ‘different cultures’ is what ‘really makes America great.’

Ahead of Seattle’s clash with the New England Patriots, Lawrence was asked for his thoughts on the Puerto Rican rapper being chosen as the halftime act for the NFL’s end-of-season showpiece in Santa Clara.

And in a thinly-veiled dig at Donald Trump and his MAGA movement, the Seahawks defensive end claimed it is simply an example of America embracing its ‘great’ variety of cultures.

‘We have so many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds in America, I think it’s time to start embracing all of them, bringing them in the fold,’ he said on the Super Bowl’s opening night.

‘That’s what really makes America great.’

Bad Bunny’s unveiling as the halftime act back in September sparked outrage amongst MAGA commentators, who have threatened to boycott it due to his public criticism of Trump’s immigration policies.

The Latino artist, who recently refused to tour in the US over concerns that his fans would be targeted by ICE agents, also performs the majority of his songs in Spanish.

Trump condemned the decision back in October, saying about Bad Bunny’s halftime show: ‘I never heard of him, I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s like, crazy.’

He also added: ‘I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.’

One week out from his Super Bowl performance, Bad Bunny took aim at Trump and ICE after winning an award at Sunday’s Grammys.

After winning best musica urbana album, he received a standing ovation when he said: ‘Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say: ICE out.

‘We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans. And we are Americans.

‘The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.’

Trump was initially expected to skip Sunday’s Super Bowl due to the selections of the musical performers – with another anti-MAGA singer, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, set to headline the opening ceremony – and the distance of the game from the East Coast.

Yet in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, sports broadcaster and Trump ally Emily Austin claimed he will be in attendance at Levi’s Stadium.

‘Trump is going. Mark my words, he’s going,’ Austin said. ‘A little birdie at the ‘Melania’ premiere might have told me.

‘That little birdie is very close to the president and he will be going as well. And if the president doesn’t go, he’ll be going.’
