Ryder Cup fans left appalled by ‘criminal’ Uber prices to get home from Bethpage Black: ‘Just gonna walk’

Fans who attended the Ryder Cup’s first day have been left stunned after discovering the price of an Uber to leave Bethpage Black.

After the thrilling action in New York – which involved an appearance from president Donald Trump – it was Europe who ended the day with a three point lead over USA.

The likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Luke Donald helped lead the charge and give Europe an advantage heading into the weekend’s events.

However, as the day came to an end, fans quickly realized that leaving Bethpage Black in Long Island would be just about as challenging as the course itself.

One golf influencer – Cailyn Henderson – shared her experiences with trying to leave the course and showed the outrageous prices that Uber were charging.

It’s unknown where Henderson had been trying to book the cab however wherever it was, it wasn’t cheap. The most affordable option – an UberX Priority – was $440.

She claimed it took an hour and a half to leave Bethpage Black

Meanwhile, the most expensive option – a Premier SUV – was $1,077.

Henderson shared an insight to her journey leaving Bethpage and revealed that she and a friend had opted to find a shuttle bus which Uber was running.

In a following Instagram story, Henderson claimed: That took us a total of an hour and a half to get out. I am feeling faint’.

Henderson’s post quickly caught traction on social media and golf fans swiftly took her side and agreed that the astronomical prices were insane.

One fan wrote on Instagram: ‘This should be illegal’.

Another wrote: ‘This is criminal @uber’.

Unfortunately for Henderson, who was supporting Team USA on the day, it was Team Europe who ended the Friday in the lead.

Trump’s arrival proved to be the most exciting part of the American spectators’ day when he arrived to cheers of ‘USA,’ despite his country’s nightmare start.

Europe blitzed the morning foursomes 3-1 before withstanding a late USA rally in another dominant afternoon session to take a commanding 5.5-2.5 lead into the second day.

However, undeterred by Europe’s dominance, Trump, who took center stage from behind a glass screen on the first tee grandstand, showed no ill will towards the USA’s rivals.

As he transformed the tournament into the Trump show, the 79-year-old greeted every player – irrelevant of their team – as they emerged from the tunnel.

And he had kind words for Donald, who is captaining Europe for the second time, as the Englishman revealed what the president said to him.

‘I saw Mr. President and shook his hand and said hello, and he said, “You know what, you’re becoming a real great leader.” It was nice of him to say that,’ Donald told reporters following Friday’s  whitewash.

‘It was nice of him to support this event.’
