  • Wrexham have announced their released/retained list after winning promotion
  • One of club’s longest-serving players was among those not offered new deals

Wrexham have announced that eight players will leave the club on the expiry of their contracts this summer.

The Red Dragons’ momentum has shown little signs of slowing down since their takeover by the Hollywood duo of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney in November of 2020.

After narrowly missing out in the pair’s first season at the club, Wrexham have now recorded three consecutive promotions, with Phil Parkinson’s side finishing second in League One to secure the club’s first appearance in the second tier of English football for more than four decades.

With yet another successful campaign behind them, the players were once again treated to an all-expenses paid end-of-season party in Las Vegas.

However, while some of the squad will look to make history with Premier League football now seemingly within their grasp, others will play no further part in the club’s meteoric rise.

That is after the club announced a series of departures as part of their 2025 released/retained list.

Arguably the most high-profile star not to be offered a new deal, former Premier League striker Steven Fletcher revealed on Thursday that his time in north Wales has come to an end.

The 38-year-old netted eight times this term but found himself consigned to the bench for the vast majority of the season as his influence waned on the pitch, with Sam Smith the club’s preferred choice through the middle.

Also leaving the club is goalkeeper Mark Howard after spending three years at the racecourse ground.

The Arsenal academy graduate was the club’s No 1 throughout much of their promotion-winning season in the National League before being ousted due to the arrival of Ben Foster towards the end of the campaign.

Howard has since served as backup to Arthur Okonkwo but did manage ten league appearances this season following injuries to the 23-year-old and second choice Callum Burton.

‘From the moment I pulled on the Wrexham shirt, I have tried to bring professionalism, passion, and personality to the club,’ Howard wrote on social media.

‘As I reflect on what an incredible journey it’s been, I consider myself fortunate to have shared a dressing room with the best team-mates.

‘Every day I have left with a smile on my face wanting to come back and do it all over again.’

Another hero of that promotion-winning campaign not to be offered a new deal is 26-year-old attacking midfielder Jordan Davies.

Davies is one of the club’s longest-serving players with his second stint beginning 2020, but spent last season on loan at League Two Grimsby.

Meanwhile Josh Adam, Harry Dean, Brad Foster, and Liam Hall all depart the club having failed to make a league appearance this season.

The club also noted that striker Sam Dalby – who spent the campaign on loan at Dundee United – was offered a new deal in January but turned it down and will leave as a free agent.
