Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted a decision is still yet to be made on his future under incoming boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford as his interim spell in charge continued with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Manchester United’s miserable start to the season improved with a 1-1 draw against Enzo Maresca’s Champions League-chasing Blues, but shared spoils leaves them 13th in the Premier League standings on just 12 points.
Van Nistelrooy – who is standing in for the sacked Erik ten Hag – is waiting to confirm his next steps with Amorim starting at United on November 11 and the club legend remaining in the dark over whether he will form part of the Portuguese’s coaching staff.
Amorim will bring his backroom team at Sporting Lisbon with him to Manchester, but could also look to mould Van Nistelrooy into his set-up after the Dutchman only joined as Ten Hag’s assistant in the summer.
Revealing whether any conversation had been held with the new United dugout chief, Van Nistelrooy told Sky Sport’s after Sunday’s draw with Chelsea: ‘It’s special, I enjoyed every second of it and I will do so for the time being. I am here to help and I will get behind the new manager.

Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as Man United’s next permanent first-team manager
Van Nistelrooy hailed the ‘special’ experience of managing Man United in the Premier League
‘Everyone at the club is focusing on the two games. After that we get behind him and work hard to make United better every day.
‘I think over the coming days and weeks everything will be talked about. I’m waiting for that. What’s more important is tomorrow we’re in again at Carrington,’ he added.
Van Nistelrooy is unlikely to be short of options with the 48-year-old previously stepping away from his head coach ambitions to take an assistant role at the club he previously helped fire to serial title success as a player.
The Dutchman is attempting to resurrect United’s dismal start in the English top-flight and Europa League, with the club’s first-team stars already looking more organised and dangerous in front of goal than under Ten Hag.
United captain Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the uninspiring 1-1 draw against Chelsea and rued not taking three points on his Premier League managerial debut.

Van Nistelrooy continued: ‘I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t take the win. We had the better of the chances. Marcus hit the post, Bruno in the last couple of minutes. Overall the performance of the players was fantastic.
‘It was a great moment, Bruno did really well taking it and then the emotions come out.
‘Today [Sunday] what you saw we competed very good. We had the better chances. I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t take the three points. I saw some excellent performances today. Lisandro [Martinez] and Matthijs [De Ligt[ did a great job, [Noussair] Mazraoui had an excellent game. Bruno [Fernandes] took the responsibility.
‘It’s a good group of players, a good group of people. They left everything on the pitch. You saw the connection with the fans. That’s what we’re looking for.
