A bad day at the office for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has led to many fans voicing their anger on social media and demanding that he gets cut.
Hamlin, who notably suffered from a heart issue and almost died on Monday Night Football in January 2023, logged two tackles and one solo tackle in the Bills’ second preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
But the Bears won in a 38-0 blowout that had fans in western New York groaning in agony as they fell to 0-2 in the preseason.
It appears that Hamlin suffered from the brunt of this anger – especially when two defensive miscues led to touchdowns from Chicago.
Hamlin gave up the first touchdown of the game after Bears QB Caleb Williams found receiver Olamide Zaccheaus over the middle. Hamlin was in position to make a tackle, but woefully missed – allowing Zaccheaus to scamper into the end zone.
Later in the first half, Hamlin was set up to make a goal line stand to stop a run – only for Bears rookie receiver Luther Burden to line up a fantastic block that the safety didn’t see coming. Halfback Brittain Brown got into the end zone with ease.

Bills fans were thoroughly unimpressed and all began to advocate for the fifth-year safety to get cut by the team.
‘I’m tired of watching Damar Hamlin,’ NFL writer Jarrett Bailey posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Other fans were more harsh in their assessment, with one posting, ‘If Damar Hamlin didn’t die on national television he wouldn’t be on this Bills’ roster.’
‘All jokes aside Damar Hamlin would be doing DoorDash right now had he not gotten hurt on national tv . Bills can never cut him or else they’ll look like shit not to mention the fame he got off it,’ said another fan.
Another post read, ‘Salute to Hamlin but he can’t play anymore.’
Last season, Hamlin played 14 games and recorded 89 tackles and 62 solo tackles. He also recovered one fumble and got his first two career NFL interceptions.
Hamlin even came up big in the playoffs – logging 15 total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in the Bills’ three games. He ended with three tackles in the Bills’ AFC Championship defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
