Marco Rubio said the US will respond “appropriately” after Cuban forces killed four people and wounded six others aboard a Florida-based speedboat on Wednesday (25 February).
The vessel entered Cuban waters and opened fire on a Cuban patrol, the Cuban government said.
Speaking to reporters in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, the US Secretary of State described the incident as “highly unusual,” and “something, frankly, that hasn’t happened with Cuba in a very long time.”
He added: “I’m very, very confident that we will know the full story of what happened here and we will know it soon, and then we will respond appropriately based on what that information tells us.”
