Bookmakers Paddy Power have enlisted the help of a former Premier League manager to mock Manchester United as their miserable start to the season continues.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-0 by Man City in the Manchester derby on Sunday, with the result increasing pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim.

Man United have won just one of their opening four Premier League matches this season, while they also suffered an embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat by League Two side Grimsby Town.

With Amorim having earned just 31 points in his 31 Premier League matches since taking charge last November, concerns have grown over his Old Trafford future.

Paddy Power highlighted doubts over Amorim’s position and the state of Manchester United in social media clip featuring Alan Curbishley.

The bookmaker shared a clip with posing the question ‘New Man United manager?’, adding ‘With Man United’s season going from bad to worse, is it time to bring in a manager who can save them?’

Curbishley is best remembered for his 15-year spell as Charlton Athletic manager which saw him guide the guide to two promotions into the Premier League.

He ultimately succeeded in established the club as a regular in the top flight before stepping down in 2006.

Curbishley, now 67, has not managed a club since leaving West Ham in 2008 after a two-year spell.

Paddy Power played on his long absence from management, with the clip seeing Curbishley pleading for a chance to return to the dugout.

‘Management, I could still do a job,’ Curbishley says. ‘The game’s move on, but I haven’t. I am still as good as I ever was.

‘I’ve got my tactics board, I will travel, you name the club, I’ll go there, League One, League Two, I’ll even consider the Scottish Premiership.

‘All I’m asking for, is for one club, one club to give me a chance.’

Immediately after Curbishley’s declaration, the former Charlton and West Ham manager’s phone is seen ringing with Man United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe seen calling.

Curbishley stated 'Thank God for that' when the call ended

He was then seen putting his phone in the bin to prevent him from being contacted by Manchester United again

Curbishley is seen glancing at his phone and declines to answer, before stating ‘thank god for that’ when the call ends.

Addressing his wife, Curbishley states ‘Linda, can we get me a new number?’ before the clip ends with the former Premier League boss throwing his phone into a bin outside his home.

Curbishley’s apparent aversion to taking the Man United job comes with managers having seen their reputations damaged at Old Trafford in recent years.

Amorim has to date proved unable to turn around Man United’s fortunes after he took charge last November, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.

The Portuguese boss led the club to their lowest Premier League finish by ending last season in 15th place, while defeat in the Europa League final by Tottenham meant the Red Devils are not involved in European football this campaign.

Despite being backed with a £236m summer spend to bolster the squad, Amorim’s side having made an underwhelming start to the league season and have crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
