Alejandro Garnacho will buy his teammates dinner to apologise for his petulant reaction at being substituted in Manchester United’s win over Ipswich on Wednesday night.
Garnacho was sacrificed after United went down to 10 men when Patrick Dorgu was sent off before half-time and head coach Ruben Amorim wanted to bring Noussair Mazraoui off the bench.
The young Argentina winger did little to hide his frustration and went straight down the tunnel at Old Trafford, later positing a picture of himself looking unhappy in the rain.
Amorim has investigated the incident and revealed on Friday that Garnacho will buy dinner for the rest of the squad.
‘He came to me,’ said the United boss. ‘It was funny because the next day he came to my office. I did some investigations; he went to the dressing-room, changed his clothes because he was wet, he watched the game, not on the bench, and at the end of the game he was there and went home.
‘There’s not an issue. But I told him that at Manchester United everything is important and perception at a big club is really important. He is going to pay a dinner for all the team and that is it.’

Former United manager Erik ten Hag spoke in an interview earlier this week about modern-day players being too soft, and Amorim was asked if Garnacho is a case in point. He referred to a similar issue involving Joshua Zirkzee who disappeared down the tunnel after being replaced against Newcastle earlier this season.
‘He is a young kid that will learn,’ replied the Portuguese. ‘The important thing is that in the next morning he was speaking with me. We need to see the small things in walking out of the pitch. Zirkzee did the same thing and the context was better. The players have to understand the perception here was really important.
‘I think it is completely different for the players. Before it was just two newspapers and nothing more. Now there is social media, they are so focused on it. You cannot go to it without seeing news and a photo. There can be a hundred things and one bad thing, and they focus on that. There can be criticism and they need help to deal with that. It is modern football.
‘I think he understands. They read everything, all the small things. I know the players quite well, I understand they are frustrated. He was subbed, he was playing well. I am just trying to help them to be better players.’
Amorim confirmed that Garnacho should be fit to face Fulham in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday after picking up a knock against Ipswich, but he isn’t expecting any of his injured players back.
‘Yes, he has a knock,’ said Amorim. ‘When he went to shoot was blocked inside the box, I expect for him to be ready but we will see. But I think no-one different is back. They are still trying to recover to help us in the next games.’
